I am seeing today pretty much the same thing happening with businesses that have been around for a long time as I saw almost 20 years ago, they are dropping like flies and they are wondering what happened. Well what is
happening is the same thing that happened all those years ago. Large companies failed to see where business is changing and since their companies have gotten to top heavy they were not able to make the changes quick enough to save their businesses.
This changing business atmosphere will continue to happen since companies are dealing with the human factor where everyone at the top thinks they know how to fix the problem and no one actually does so consequently nothing is getting done to fix the problem and many companies continue to fold. As a small business owner now for over 38 years I have seen this cycle a few times and nothing ever changes, a little too late. In order to see this change you really need to be more involved with your customers and understand the buying and viewing habits.

To understand buying habits you first need to know who’s business you are trying to get, business or consumer as today both have different buying habits and use the internet in different ways.
Businesses use Websites – Consumers use Social Networking
Businesses use the internet to find companies that they want to do business with via search engines of which the most popular is Google, so if you are a business doing business b2b then you need to have an online presence to stay viable today. There are some businesses that survive on the strictly local business short term but if you want to be viable long-term so those who wait till they need the business will not survive the long term unless they already have an established themselves online.
Advertising – Establishing an Online Business
Unfortunately, when a company attempts to establish themselves online they usually choose online business developers that opt to offer SEO services that are based on paying for keywords, as such they can create a great looking website with one problem, it is not properly optimized.
In all likely hood, if you have a website you more than likely fall into this category, I could write a whole other article on this topic. Now on the other hand if your business is with consumers then today attracting consumers is mainly done today through Social Networking, they are many avenues for which you can go with this though you still need to have a good website. The majority of your marketing can be done through social networking. Now if you are a large company you more than likely have a social media marketing division to handle this though if you are a small business then you have to take care of this yourself or hire someone to do this for you and again I can write several articles on how this can be done. Many great articles have already been written on this subject.

Many social media marketing professionals say the website is the old way of building a business, I say that really depends on what type of business you are going after. This is why I have broken down the two types above. For both types there are cost-effective alternatives which include business directories and business advertising resources, now many people use craigslist which is great for immediate traffic, almost like a newspaper though slightly better and much more cost effective. Long term though Craigslist is very limiting as anymore they do not allow you to add hyperlinks to URLs. Additionally, most listings never obtain any rankings so your listing is being viewed only by people looking directly on this site. Try finding your listing via a web search and it will not happen so you only getting site traffic and not search engine traffic, now with our business services you will receive search engine traffic as you can optimize each listing individually. Basically what this means is every listing can become like a small website for your business all of which link to your main website, these listings work two-fold by providing both organic business and search engine business.
